A Review of the WE-Tech Dragon 1911 Xcelerator GBB Pistol

WE-Tech Dragon 1911 Xcelerator
This weapon was purchased at Evike.com. It came nicely packed inside a plastic pistol case similar to what you would recieve when you purchase a real steel pistol. Along with the pistol was a spare magazine, the allen (hex) wrench needed to field strip the weapon and a small bag off bb's (approximately 100 bb's).
What is first noticable about this pistol is the large size. The barrel is 7 inches long and combined with a barrel extension, which resembles a meat tenderizer, the weapon is intimidating. The size does make finding a comfortable holster to fit the weapon difficult, but there are some universal holsters that will carry this weapon well on a drop leg platform.
The entire weapon is constructed of metal with the exception of the grip plates. The pistol has realistic field stripping with the exception that the barrel extension must be removed using the supplied allen wrench. This weapon does feature both a grip safety and an ambidextrious thumb safety, both of which are fully functional. The weapon uses a three dot sight with the front sight being fiber optic type. The sights are highly visible even if lighting is not good which makes target aquisition quick.
Using .20 gram bb's and green gas the pistol chronographed consistantly at 330-349 feet per second which is decent but may be a little hot to use in many CQB environments. I do believe that by using propane instead of green gas this pistol will easily drop to a CQB level, but at this time it has not been tested. (Once I am able to test this I will update the review.)
Aside from looking good, the split slide design reduces the overall weight of the slide which seems to reduce the amount of gas used to operate the blowback function of the pistol. In testing during warmer weather I could cycle three full magazine loads with enough gas pressure to lock the slide back before having to re-gas the magazine. During cooler weather this dropped to about two loads. The lightened aluminum slide also seems to make the pistol more reactive to each trigger pull. The cyclic rate is amazing, this pistol will shoot as fast as the trigger can be pulled.
As far as accuracy goes, this pistol is more than just a side arm, the etxtended barrel and great hop-up make it a sniper pistol! At approximately 200 feet this pistol will easily hold groups within a pie plate. Beyond 200 feet a man-sized target is still an easy kill.
I recommend this pistol to anyone who needs a sidearm that is reliable, intimidating and damned accurate, as long as the size is not a concern.
